As campers embark on their journey from 1st grade onward, they are introduced to exhilarating experiences such as the Zipline, Giant Swing, and the beloved Tamarack tradition of GAGA. For those entering 2nd grade, the schedule incorporates the innovative CHOICE concept, empowering campers to choose an activity to engage in daily for a week. This flexibility allows them to explore different activities on a weekly basis. Moreover, the Explorer program introduces campers to the Learn to Bike Program, a fundamental step that equips them with the skills to ride two-wheelers, paving the way for their participation in the advanced Mountain Biking program.
Explorer Athletics

Learn to Swim
The Learn-to-Swim Program at Tamarack is a cornerstone of our camp experience, especially at our Parsippany-Troy Hills , NJ location. Our aquatic facility sets the standard with its newly constructed, state-of-the-art 12,000-square-foot pool, designed to cater to swimmers of all levels.
With water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, our Aquatic Facility provides the ideal environment for swimmers to progress from shallow to deeper waters as they advance in skill. Every morning, our Explorer campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified instructors, supported by group counselors. In the afternoons, campers enjoy free swim sessions, fostering confidence and reinforcing newly acquired skills. What sets our program apart is its focus on skill-based rather than age-based instruction. This approach allows us to challenge and support swimmers of all proficiency levels, ensuring each camper receives personalized attention and opportunities for growth. Our instructors, equipped with training from the American Red Cross and backed by 25 years of practical experience, continually refine their techniques to provide effective and engaging swim instruction.
Ropes Course
At Tamarack’s Parsippany-Troy Hills , NJ location, our Explorer campers embark on thrilling adventures, including their first encounter with the exhilarating Zipline. Our Ropes course is meticulously designed to accommodate individual progression, empowering campers to advance at their own pace.
As campers build comfort and confidence, they gain access to higher and more challenging elements of the course. The journey begins with the Tamarack Confidence Course, strategically positioned just 5 feet above the ground. This initial stage provides a gentle introduction to being on belay and navigating course elements while maintaining proximity to the ground. Upon mastering this phase, campers move on to conquer the Climbing Walls and Zipline, further honing their skills and embracing new heights. Safety is paramount in our ropes courses. To ensure the utmost safety standards, our courses undergo thorough seasonal inspections conducted by the company that built them. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors oversee daily checks, guiding campers through the courses with expertise and vigilance.
