Summer Camp near Succasunna, NJ
Tamarack, located near Succasunna, offers a wide range of programs for children aged 3-15, each carefully tailored to their specific physical and developmental stages. Our mission-driven approach ensures a nurturing environment where campers can acquire various skills and essential life competencies. We are dedicated to creating deliberate opportunities for success, ultimately leading to a summer experience that fosters greater confidence, independence, and a well-rounded personality.
Beyond the typical activities like swimming or baseball, your child will develop a multitude of valuable traits such as independence, confidence, teamwork, a willingness to explore new activities, determination, social and emotional intelligence, integrity, leadership, and resilience. The Tamarack Experience is made even better with central transportation, a comprehensive lunch program, and a 37-acre facility equipped with a heated Olympic-size pool, a state-of-the-art sports complex with Pro-turf, air-conditioned studios, a skate park, ropes course, and zip lines. All of these amenities are designed to facilitate the acquisition of these life skills while ensuring that your child has a blast in a traditional day camp setting.
3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins)
Tamarack offers specialized programs for our youngest campers, conveniently located near Succasunna. Our Munchkin Division provides flexible options, including 5-full-day, 3-full-day, and 5-half-day choices, ensuring that parents can find a schedule that suits their needs. Importantly, we maintain a low camper to staff ratio to guarantee personalized attention and a safe, nurturing environment.
Within our Munchkin Division, our dedicated Munchkin Specialists are specifically trained to work with 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. They lead a range of age-appropriate athletic and creative activities geared towards enhancing motor skills development. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive swimming program to ensure that every child acquires this essential skill.
Our program goes beyond physical development and also emphasizes social growth. Children have the opportunity to interact respectfully and confidently in a group setting, helping them build valuable social skills. We provide dedicated meal times and spaces that cater to their nutritional needs, fostering a caring and supportive environment that promotes their overall well-being.
Explorers (1st and 2nd Graders)
Tamarack’s Explorer program is designed to adapt and grow with your child’s development. For 1st graders, we introduce them to exciting features such as the Zipline and Giant Swing, along with activities like GAGA. 2nd graders, on the other hand, enjoy the freedom of choosing their weekly activities during the CHOICE period, which includes a Learn to Bike Program.
Our Explorers participate in a diverse range of activities, from modified traditional sports to creative arts like ceramics and drama. They also engage in a comprehensive Learn-to-Swim Program in our state-of-the-art aquatic facility. Furthermore, they experience the excitement of our inspected and certified ropes courses, starting with the Confidence Course.
Throughout these activities, our Explorers not only develop physical skills but also nurture their social and emotional intelligence. We foster a collaborative and respectful environment where they learn to work effectively with others, helping them grow in a supportive atmosphere.
Seniors (5th & 6th Graders)
Senior campers at Tamarack, conveniently located near Succasunna, have the privilege of engaging in a diverse range of activities that cater to their interests and promote skill development. These activities encompass advanced sports like soccer, football, tennis, and lacrosse, as well as creative arts in air-conditioned studios, including ceramics, music, and cooking.
We understand the importance of skill development and gameplay. Therefore, our senior campers have access to specialized athletic and creative programs that focus on honing their abilities in these areas. A significant highlight for many of our seniors is the variety of day trips we offer, with Camelbeach being a favorite among them. Moreover, Senior Late Nights provide unique experiences, featuring dinner, extra activities, and twilight campfires, creating unforgettable memories.
Our senior campers also benefit from swimming in a state-of-the-art aquatic facility, which includes tailored swim lessons and free swim sessions to enhance their swimming skills. For those with adventurous spirits, our comprehensive ropes course offers activities like climbing, ziplining, and rappelling.
Choices continue with opportunities to participate in the annual Drama Production or special Dance routines, with performances being a key feature of the camp. Throughout these experiences, our focus remains on fostering social skills, teamwork, and personal growth within a supportive, bully-free environment. We strive to create an environment where every senior camper can thrive and develop essential life skills.
Teen Travel (7th, 8th, & 9th Graders)
At Tamarack, our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders have the exclusive opportunity to participate in our Teen Travel Program. This program offers a dynamic blend of thrilling day trips and engaging on-camp activities, providing a well-rounded experience for our teens.
On camp days, our teens follow a structured group schedule that includes activities such as free swim, Ropes Courses, and various athletic and creative pursuits, all thoughtfully guided by our experienced counselors. This ensures that they have a diverse and enriching camp experience right on our grounds.
For the exciting out-of-camp adventures, we take safety seriously. Our Teen Travel Program adheres to stringent Tamarack Travel Safety Protocols. Both the campers and their parents must agree to our Teen Travel Behavior Contract to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Furthermore, our dedicated Division Head not only oversees the Teen Travel Programs within the camp but also accompanies the teens on their trips. This additional layer of supervision ensures the well-being and security of our campers during their off-campus excursions.
Our Teen Staff members receive specialized training to effectively supervise campers in public settings and address the unique challenges that come with early teenage years. This training equips them to handle various situations with care and expertise.

Social Development
Located near Succasunna, our camp counselors at Oak Crest play a pivotal role in guiding campers through a series of team-building challenges and competitions. This structured approach is designed to foster essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and support.
Our emphasis on teamwork not only enhances campers’ abilities but also cultivates respect among peers, laying the foundation for lifelong friendships. Furthermore, Oak Crest holds a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment where children and young teens can flourish emotionally and socially.
Our commitment is to create a caring and nurturing space that prioritizes the development of these vital emotional and social skills, ultimately helping campers grow into well-rounded individuals who are equipped to navigate the challenges of life with confidence and empathy.
LIT Program (10th & 11th Graders)
The Leader-In-Training (LIT) Experience at Tamarack is designed for 10th graders, and it’s more than just a program; it’s a transformative journey that equips them with crucial leadership skills applicable to their future endeavors, whether it’s their first job, college life, or beyond. This unique program serves as a vital bridge from being a camper to becoming a counselor, emphasizing essential qualities such as problem-solving, role modeling, and teamwork.
As part of the LIT program, participants take on meaningful responsibilities and receive valuable constructive feedback to help them evolve into successful staff members. It’s a hands-on learning experience that fosters growth and personal development.
One of the program’s highlights is the adventurous 6-day leadership trip with Windsor Mountain. During this excursion, teens are immersed in a challenging environment that focuses on teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility. This experience pushes them to step out of their comfort zones and discover their potential.
