At Tamarack in 07946, NJ, our program evolves alongside campers as they age. Similar to the Munchkin program, the Explorer program aims to enhance athletic and creative skills, improve swimming abilities, and nurture social and emotional intelligence.
Starting in 1st grade, campers experience the Zipline, Giant Swing, and Tamarack’s GAGA tradition. In 2nd grade, campers have the CHOICE program, allowing them to select an activity to engage in daily for a week, with the option to switch activities the following week. Additionally, Explorers participate in the Learn to Bike Program, which teaches them two-wheeler riding skills and prepares them for the Mountain Biking program.
In 07946, NJ, our 1st and 2nd graders participate in adapted versions of conventional sports on appropriately sized fields and courts tailored to their age group. This tailored approach fosters a sense of achievement as they acquire the foundational skills of these sports. Explorer campers are introduced to Tennis and Lacrosse, with Athletic Specialists guiding sessions that involve skill instruction and game play to reinforce those skills. Tamarack counselors actively engage in all activities alongside the campers, assisting specialists in creating and reinforcing positive experiences for the campers.

One noteworthy highlight is the participation of all Explorer Girl groups in a dance routine, which is showcased during our annual Dance and Drama Production. This significant event takes place during the 6th week of camp, in the evening, at a local venue and features professional sound and lighting, providing an unforgettable experience for both campers and their families.
At Tamarack, our Learn-to-Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Tamarack experience, especially in our 07946, NJ location. Our aquatic facility is unparalleled, boasting a newly constructed, state-of-the-art 12,000-square-foot pool. This aquatic facility offers water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, allowing swimmers to progress from shallow to deeper waters as their skills develop.
Every morning, our Explorer campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing assistance. What sets our program apart is that swim lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, accommodating swimmers of all proficiency levels. Our instructors undergo annual training and incorporate techniques from the American Red Cross, drawing from 25 years of practical experience in effectively teaching children how to swim.
At Tamarack’s 07946, NJ location, our Explorer campers are introduced to the exhilarating Zipline experience. Our Ropes course is thoughtfully structured to cater to individual progression, allowing campers to advance at their own pace. As their comfort and confidence levels increase, they gain access to higher and more challenging elements.
The initial stage of this journey features the Tamarack Confidence Course, offering similar challenges to the High Ropes Course but positioned just 5 feet above the ground. This approach enables campers to acclimate to being on belay and navigating elements while remaining close to the ground. Upon successful completion, they advance to the Climbing Walls and Zipline.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo regular seasonal inspections conducted by the company that constructed them. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the campers through the courses, perform daily checks, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all.
