Summer Camp near Riverdale, NJ
Located near Riverdale, Tamarack offers a range of specialized programs designed for children aged 3-15, targeting their unique physical and developmental needs. Our core mission revolves around creating a nurturing environment that fosters skill development and instills vital life competencies. We’re dedicated to crafting intentional pathways to success, ensuring that each summer spent with us contributes significantly to the growth of confident, independent, and well-rounded individuals.
At Tamarack, we go beyond mere skill acquisition such as swimming or baseball; we focus on cultivating independence, confidence, teamwork, a spirit of exploration, determination, social and emotional intelligence, integrity, leadership, and resilience in every child. The Tamarack Experience is amplified by our central transportation system, comprehensive lunch program, and a sprawling 37-acre campus equipped with a heated Olympic-size pool, Pro-turf sports complex, air-conditioned studios, skate park, ropes course, and zip lines. All these facilities are meticulously designed to blend fun and adventure seamlessly with the development of essential life skills, offering the quintessential experience of a traditional day camp.
3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins)
At Tamarack, we offer tailored programs for our youngest campers in the Riverdale area code, specifically designed for 3 to 5-year-olds. Our Munchkin Division provides flexible options, including 5-full-day, 3-full-day, and 5-half-day choices, ensuring a low camper-to-staff ratio for individualized attention. Our Munchkin Specialists are highly trained to engage and guide these young campers through age-appropriate athletic and creative activities, focusing on motor skill development. Additionally, we prioritize comprehensive swimming lessons to equip every child with this essential skill.
Our program places a strong emphasis on social development, teaching children respectful and confident interaction within a group setting. We provide dedicated meal times and spaces that cater to their nutritional needs, all within a nurturing and supportive environment.
Explorers (1st and 2nd Graders)
At Tamarack, our Explorer program in the Riverdale area code is designed to evolve alongside our young campers. First graders are introduced to exciting features such as the Zipline and Giant Swing, along with activities like GAGA. Second graders have the opportunity to choose from a variety of weekly activities during the CHOICE period, including participating in our Learn to Bike Program.
Explorers also engage in modified traditional sports, creative arts such as ceramics and drama, and benefit from our comprehensive Learn-to-Swim Program in our state-of-the-art aquatic facility. Additionally, they have the chance to experience the thrill of our inspected and certified ropes courses, starting with the Confidence Course. Throughout these experiences, our Explorers develop their social and emotional intelligence, fostering collaboration and respect in a supportive environment.
Juniors (3rd & 4th Graders)
At Tamarack’s Riverdale location, our Junior campers enjoy a rich array of creative and athletic activities. These activities include twice-daily swims and the introduction to advanced pursuits like Archery, Mountain Biking, and High Ropes. The CHOICE program grants them the autonomy to select activities that align with their interests, facilitating skill development.
Special events like Junior Late Nights extend camp access, providing additional activities and a twilight campfire experience. Juniors engage in various sports on full-sized fields, refine their biking abilities through a comprehensive program, and explore their creative sides in air-conditioned art studios. Our state-of-the-art aquatic facility supports their swimming proficiency, while the ropes course offers diverse challenges. Throughout these experiences, the emphasis is on fostering social skills and teamwork in a supportive and respectful environment.
Seniors (5th & 6th Graders)
At Tamarack’s Riverdale facility, senior campers are immersed in a diverse range of activities, encompassing advanced sports like soccer, football, tennis, and lacrosse, as well as creative arts in air-conditioned studios, including ceramics, music, and cooking. They benefit from access to specialized athletic and creative programs, which prioritize skill development and active game participation. A standout feature is the assortment of day trips, with Camelbeach being a favored destination. Additionally, Senior Late Nights provide unique experiences featuring dinner, additional activities, and twilight campfires. The schedule includes swimming in a state-of-the-art aquatic facility, offering tailored swim lessons and free swim sessions. Our comprehensive ropes course caters to adventurous spirits, offering opportunities for climbing, ziplining, and rappelling. Seniors can also choose to participate in the annual Drama Production or special Dance routines, with performances being a notable aspect of the camp experience. Throughout their time, the overarching focus remains on nurturing social skills, fostering teamwork, and facilitating personal growth in a supportive and respectful environment.
Teen Travel (7th, 8th, & 9th Graders)
At Tamarack, our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders participate in the exclusive Teen Travel Program, which combines thrilling day trips with engaging camp activities. On camp days, Teens follow a structured group schedule, participating in activities such as free swim, Ropes Courses, and various athletic and creative pursuits, all overseen by our counselors. During out-of-camp adventures, Teens must adhere to the rigorous Tamarack Travel Safety Protocols. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, each Teen Travel camper and their parents are required to agree to our Teen Travel Behavior Contract. Additionally, a dedicated Division Head not only supervises the Teen Travel Programs within the camp but also accompanies them on trips. Our Teen Staff undergo specialized training to effectively supervise campers in public settings and address the unique challenges of the early teenage years. Social Development
At Oak Crest, camp counselors in the Riverdale area guide groups through team-building challenges and competitions to cultivate teamwork, support, and effective communication. This structured setting emphasizes respect and the formation of lasting friendships. Oak Crest has a strict zero-tolerance policy against bullying and is dedicated to nurturing a caring atmosphere that facilitates the development of vital emotional and social skills in children and young teens.
LIT Program (10th & 11th Graders)
The Leader-In-Training (LIT) Experience at Tamarack, tailored for 10th graders in the Riverdale area, offers essential leadership skills and practical preparation for their future endeavors, including their first job and college life. Serving as a transitional phase from being campers to potential counselors, the program places a strong emphasis on problem-solving, role modeling, and teamwork. LITs assume meaningful responsibilities and receive constructive feedback, enabling them to evolve into successful staff members. The program also incorporates an adventurous 6-day leadership trip with Windsor Mountain, dedicated to fostering teamwork, leadership, and responsibility, pushing teenagers to step beyond their comfort zones. This comprehensive experience not only makes a significant contribution to the camp community but also enhances personal growth and future opportunities for these young leaders.
